Michael Schwarz studied mechanical engineering with a focus on manufacturing technology at Technical University Munich. Upon completing his studies with a diploma on forming technologies in cooperation with a German automobile manufacturer he started his professional career at a German supplier to the electronics industry. From 1998 to 2005 he worked in the patent department of a German automobile manufacturer, in his last position as head of the department ‘roof systems and vehicle concepts’. Besides handling national and international patents and utility models, he was also concerned with questions of employee invention rights, portfolio analyses as well as the evaluation of protective rights and protection strategies.

Michael Schwarz has been admitted representative before the European Patent Office since 2001 and German Patent Assessor since 2004. Since 2006 he has been admitted as German Patent Attorney and registered in the list of representatives before the Office for the Harmonization of the Internal Market (OHIM). In 2005 he joined Hofstetter, Schurack & Partner and became a partner in 2007. He successfully concluded a biennial master degree program in European Intellectual Property as "Master of Laws" (LL.M.) in 2015.

The emphasis of his practice is on the drafting, application and prosecution of national and international patents and utility models. He specialises in attending to clients in automobile technology, process engineering and material sciences.

Michael Schwarz is associate lecturer at the Munich University of Applied Sciences.

He speaks German and English.
